AIE-ASEM Summer School 2021

THEME: PEOPLE AND EMPOWERMENT

The AEI-ASEM Summer School was first initiated by the Malaysian government during the 4th ASEM Education Ministers’ Meeting (ASEMME4) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in 2013 with the aim of increasing the flow of European students to Asia towards balanced mobility. Over the years, the participants of the AEI-ASEM summer school have been students, academicians and researchers from both Asia and Europe.

This year, the AEI is honoured to collaborate with Universitas Padjadjaran, Indonesia and University of Freiburg, Germany to host the summer school of 2021 under the theme “People and Public Empowerment in Asia and Europe.” In today’s ever globalizing world, there is a growing concern that various factors such as conflict or growing economic inequality have contributed to the disempowerment and increased vulnerability of different groups in society. The lectures this year explore the issues related to public empowerment in Southeast Asia and Europe offering students a unique opportunity to learn from experts from both regions. The lecture modules will cover social, economic and cyber security, and employee empowerment in both Asia and Europe, discussing issues of common concern as well as key factors in the pursuit of enhancing social resilience. The modules will also provide a platform for peer-to-peer discussion on the topics at hand in order to take into account the experience and opinions of the participants.
